About me

Fiona Cullinan head shotThis year I am mostly…

…being a writer, editor and blogger, creating content for my own blogs and also for brands and non-profits. I’m active in social media and interested in learning new digital skills and experimenting with online tools to create content.

My role is also currently morphing into that of a content strategist (a content sheriff if you like) because brands are now finding themselves with a ton of messy content that is costing them money and isn’t helping them achieve their goals.

[What is content strategy? It is process of audit, analysis, planning, monitoring and governance for your words, images, video and anything else content-related. And it's a plan that tries to do this with a goal in mind, to get you from A to B. We look at the whole life cycle of content, editorial calendars and taking down old content that may be hurting the brand. And we seek alignment between stakeholders so that the communications experience is integrated within your company - no last minute surprises.]

Ancient history…

As for my past, there are 22 years’ experience of working in print and 10 years online, mostly in sub-editing, but also occasionally I enjoy travel writing and photography, with features published in the Independent on Sunday, Sunday Mirror and the Metro. Now, though, I publish on my own travel blog.

I’m a ‘classically-trained’ magazine journalist, thanks to the London College of Printing (now Communication). Sub-editing was my main field of practice for many years and I still post to my sub-editing blog.

In 2006, I completed a degree in Creative and Professional Writing and Popular Music (yes, it’s true… I’ve even played for Gordon Brown). So I suppose I’m also a Bachelor of Pop and have been known to play the ukulele in recent times.

Feel free to check out the links on nav and sidebars to find out more. I’d also welcome your feedback, especially as this site in now living on a blog platform with comments (mostly) enabled.

Enjoy!
