Welcome to my site. I’m a writer, editor and blogger, creating content for my own blogs and also for brands and non-profits. I’m active in social media and interested in learning new digital skills and experimenting with online tools to create content.
That’s the present. It is subject to change.
In the near future, I’ll also be supporting clients and web projects with content strategy. What is content strategy? In a nutshell, it’s having a plan for your words, images, video and anything else content-related, and it’s a plan that tries to do this with a goal in mind. It also looks at the whole life cycle of content, editorial calendars and taking down content that has been left to rot on the vine.
As for my past, there are 20 years’ experience of working in print and eight years online, mostly in sub-editing, but also occasionally I enjoy travel writing and photogaphy, with features published in the Independent on Sunday, Sunday Mirror and the Metro. These days, with the contraction of print media, this work tends to find a home on my own travel blog.
Then there’s the far distant past.
I’m a ‘classically-trained’ magazine journalist, thanks to the London College of Printing (now Communication). Sub-editing was my main field of practice for many years, until I crossed the digital divide to work on websites, social media projects, ezines, SEO content and corporate blogging. I still post occasionally to my sub-editing blog, though, when the ranting urge occurs.
In 2006, I completed a degree in Creative and Professional Writing and Popular Music (yes, it’s true… I’ve even played for Gordon Brown). So I suppose I’m a Bachelor of Pop.
About pages are hard, especially when you’re on e of those writer/sub/guitar types with both traditional and new media, and stage, experience. What can I say, they tell me it’s called multi-skilling…
Feel free to check out more links on nav and sidebars to find out more. I’d also welcome your feedback, especially as this site in now living on a blog platform with comments (mostly) enabled.
Enjoy!
