The Diary

I’m currently on Diary number 69 (not counting all the side diaries, notebooks, sketchbooks and secret online diaries).

I love diaries and diary writing – pretty much a dying activity now that we publish our lives online and publicly. I’ve kept diaries since 1979 and have several trunk-loads of books filled with everything from teenage angst to cartoon strips to travel writing. I’ve previously read my teenage diaries out at Oh Dear Diary events and created short stories from specific journeys for those I’ve travelled with.

My big project now I’m older is to revisit them, and also mine them, in both traditional and experimental ways, from coding algorithms to handmade photomontage to short travel narratives. That should keep it interesting and help me get to grips with what I’ve actually got.
